Welcome to Mr. Meyer's Science and Social Studies Page!
Science is the process by which we figure out how the world around us works. Students work through an inquiry-based curriculum to address topics covering Life, Earth, and Physical Science. The curriculum is based on the Next Generation Science Standards, which are aligned to Common Core. Students collaborate to complete labs, inquiries, research, and models. Students are evaluated on labs and interactives, projects, unit foldables, participation, quizzes and tests, written prompts, and unit portfolios.
At PJH, our Social Studies curriculum is broken into four units: Economics, History, Geography, and Civics. Our goals for our students are to promote critical thinking and skill application to prepare them as future leaders of our community, country, and world. Our curriculum is based on the Illinois Learning Standards for Social Science. Our economics unit centers on personal finance, microeconomics, and macroeconomics. The history unit focuses on identifying reliable sources, bias, and perspective, writing in history, and influential Americans and event. The third component, Civics, deals with rights and responsibilities of citizens, roles of government, and the federal and state government. Our final area, Geography, addresses basic map skills, human/environment interactions, and global citizenship.
